You guys asked for it so, here it is


This is a blog of all my thoughts I note down while reading A Court of Thornes and Roses for the first time.

I feel I should note - I do go into this with knowledge of some spoilers - especially involving the main love interests.

Which btw, do not read this if you don't want spoilers.


Though I have tried not to spoil too too much for myself, there are only so many reels and memes I can avoid while also consuming other fantasy reading content, and I do love my Fourth Wing memes.


These are my real time thoughts and reactions while reading through this series for the first time.

ch 5 pg 42

  • okay so not a fan so far. Don’t like Feyre much at all. Obv don’t like her sisters either or her dad. I don’t like ANYONE in this book so far. Also negative points for killing animals - Idc if it’s fantasy. I swear I’m not just looking for reasons to complain, but I think the plot is really dumb so far. “ you can die. Or come with me 😄”. V convenient. Also this “promise” to her dead mother who was kinda a bitch causing her to let her family walk all over her while she acts like a martyr? Hard pass. 10% into this book and it feels like nothing has happened and I care zero percent about these characters. Low key wish Feyre was eaten so I don’t have to keep going. But alas. We shall continue. I had high hopes for this bc of the hype and I am just hoping it gets better bc as of rn I am bored as shit. 

Pg 46

  • So glad beast boi put her to sleep for the trek to the wall bc I was dreading having to endure a whole two day journey play by play.

Pg 49 

  • I ain’t sayin she a gold digger…

  • Savior? Why is she thinking of him as savior already.

  • still don’t get why there’s masks but yolo 
  • Starting to like this. Mostly bc how comically awkward the fae boys are when asking Feyre about her love life lol 
  • Feyre is feisty I guess but really not very clever. Missing violet from fourth wing extra rn. I’m glad she’s at least sassier now, but also still annoyed at this unfounded sense of duty she’s tied herself to. Very self important martyr like still. Girl needs to chill.
  • Lucien is a dick but he’s funny af 

Pg 71

  • I don’t hate Tamlin. He’s growing on me. I know I’ll apparently hate him eventually, but right now he seems just awkward af in an endearing way

Chapter 8 (I’ll do by chapters now rather than page numbers I think)

  • “I stared at the crumbs of bread and swirls of remaining sauce on my golden plate. Had I been at home, I would have licked my plate clean, desperate for any extra bit of nourishment. And the plates … I could have bought a team of horses, a plow, and a field for just one of them. Disgusting.” No longer scared/ in awe, more so becoming a bit repulsed by how high and mighty / wasteful/ opulent they are, and tbh girl same, I'd be like fuck right off too
  • This mother’s promise has to be something more significant than a guilt trip - hopefully - bc that would make more sense at least
  • Mom died when she was EIGHT. Making an eight year old youngest child promise to look after her older sisters and dad is super like need family counseling fucked. Idc if she was the “strong” sister, to ask that of an eight year old is insanely selfish and cruel imo


Chapter 9

  • Banter btwn feyre and Lucien is my fav so far - I love me some subtle snark
  • Hmm wonder how this magical eye stuff will come about later
  • Also unsure how I feel about this inability to lie plot device, feel like its makes things too easy
  • I don’t love the overall slow dialogue style so far, BUT this chapter ending is the most enticing yet. notably this if the first time where I would be hesitant to stop after a chapter, and instead of pushing myself to continue on I’m excited to see whats next (think Neil Gaiman what happens next quote)
  • quote is actually "And then what happened?"


Chapter 10

  • Patronus vs dementor style vibes here
  • About to start keeping count of spider walking shivers - it was fine the first time but I find the repeated use of the wording very annoying
  • Lucien is def my fave so far with this sassy side kick little brother who first befriends the “enemy” kind of trope (like Xander in The Inheritance Games maybe ish? not exactly but somewhat similar in how I see them)
  • First thought - not really her father but some kind of trick to lure her out of safety? Bc how would her father get there unharmed - PLUS he would be too much a coward to actually risk it, unless theres some unfounded character development that Feyre's departure caused to rapidly take place. If he is truly there unharmed its Tamlin’s doing I assume with is nice but not that interesting + why would he do that?
  • (also lol I understand why he’s tampon now bc autocorrect lolllllllll)


Chapter 11

  • Oh yah def trying to lure her out of safety, girl I thought you were a bit more observant/ less gullible 
  • Knew it - its like Koh the face stealer from atla - not exactly but I can’t think of what exactly I’m thinking of - like the sea creature from dead boy detectives that uses voices of loved ones to lure people to their death (+ plenty of other lore things about malicious magical beings tricking people like this etc)
  • Though I think she should have been smarter, I do get the frustration / the wanting it to be true taking over her better judgement - fair enough
  • Fucks sake the promise again (insert Tairn level eye roll)
  • Again, asking this kind of promise to an eight year old. Fuck right off. I will say the fact that Feyre made the promise when she was eight and still a child allows me to understand a bit more of the personal weight, bc as a child you can’t comprehend that whats being asked of you is too much, and you don’t yet understand that your parent is toxic, but I would assume she would have grown out of that naivety as she matured and became so experienced and self sufficient in life. It’s like she’s still mentally stuck as that 8 year old, which does explain some things I dislike about her character. So fair enough SJM, I have more empathy for her than before. But still want to shake some sense into her. 
  • Also Tamlin is def a sad boy 
  • Aha just realized who Feyre’s mom reminds me of - Mother Gothel from Rapunzel. 
  • Ah puca! Thats legit lore (Irish I think + I think they were in that Folklore ps game/ Pooka from Anastasia which I named my perfect angel evil little gremlin fairy cat after in high school)

  • Oh shit thats exactly what I’m thinking of actually - the creatures from Anastasia that try to lure her to jump to her death on the boat/ other places by pretending to be her family, and Demetri (our first morally gray mmc obsession) stops her. Ahhhhhhh
  • Yeah I had a feeling the cling to the promise was like a crutch to give her the will to like keep moving forward each day - like even though it was a shitty one, it gave her a sense of purpose.

Will update more as I go - but it is indeed growing on me so far - apparently 24% through the book so far, so I still think its very slow for my taste, but we're getting there. I am invested at least, if only for the continued Lucien banter at this point.
